Cozy DIY Modern, Moody, And Monochromatic Media Room

What happens when you marry your love for Disney, beautiful rich color, and all the blankets? You create the best media room for your family.

It was a no brainer when we picked out this house plan, the big room upstairs would be where our family would enjoy movie nights and our favorite TV shows.

We already had the sectional sofa, we had beautiful Disney puzzles we put together during quarantine, and I had a vision.

Paint

I was approached by Romabio, an amazing mineral based paint developed in Italy, to use their new Velatura Mineral Wash paint in combination with their beautiful line of interior/exterior paints.

I chose the color Navy Steel for both the Velatura Mineral Wash accent wall, and the remaining walls, ceiling, and trim.

Not only is Romabio’s paint beautiful, it’s eco friendly, durable, and safe for your family making it the obvious choice for our family media room.

Decor

WALL DECOR

During quarantine we put together beautiful Disney puzzles from artist Darren Wilson.

Each puzzle has a sentimental meaning and I thought they would be perfect framed to look like actual movie posters.

I found the remaining movie themed wall decor from Hobby lobby.

RUG

To break up the plain carpet and to pull the space together, I wanted a rug that could anchor the whole room.

LIGHTING

With the placement of the sectional and the fact that we love having air movement, I needed an overhead light that also doubled as a fan, but without the exposed blades.

What I loved even more is that it looks like an actual movie reel and it has a remote we can adjust not only the light, but also the fan and never have to leave the couch.

For the movie puzzles I found these battery operated lights that are also remote controlled and one remote can control them all.

These lights also give off the perfect amount of light in a darkened room.

I love how they highlight our movie puzzles.

CURTAINS

The natural choice were velvet and of course black out because we love to watch movies in the middle of the day. (Of course it’s nearly impossible to get a good picture of them, but trust me they’re so good.)

Media room of our dreams

Our family has loved spending time in our new modern, moody, and monochromatic media room.

We’ve already had our fair share of movie marathons, binge watching our favorite TV shows, and we’re looking forward to watching football here soon.

I truly believe it feels like we’re walking into a movie theatre every time we come into this room. The only difference is the snacks are cheaper, our dogs are here, and we can pause at any time.

The media room is almost perfect, but it’s missing one thing

While we have a mini fridge in our media room, but we need a proper snack bar.

We also need storage for things like DVD’s and games.

Once we get that all squared away I’ll do a final, final reveal, but for now we are loving what this room is giving our family.

  1. I also like the way you painted the door the same color as the walls and the way you painted up the ceiling on the TV wall!
