We did the craziest thing to save on toilet paper.

We bought a bidet and it totally changed our lives.

Times are tough right now. For the life of me, I cannot understand why toilet paper and paper towels are so coveted, yet here we are. We made the decision at the end of last year to switch from paper towels to shop towels. We use the shop towels just like we would paper towels, but now we wash them and use them over and over. I haven’t bought paper towels in almost 5 months. That right there felt like a money win for our family and a huge win for the environment. I thought THAT was a game changer, when actually it was just the beginning.

Then “toilet paper gate” happened.

We were totally stocked up with toilet paper and fine. Not toilet paper hoarding kind of fine, but comfortable enough that I wasn’t worried. But as more and more people talked about the lack of TP in town, EVERY time I went to the grocery and the shelves remained empty, I felt an eye twitch and the tinge of panic starting to set in.

Light bulb moment.

Sure we have all sort of snickered at the fact that other countries have been using a bidet for years. We had just renovated our master bathroom and there was no room to add a separate bidet. We were in the plumbing aisle at Home Depot and I asked an associate if they had anything that could make a bidet. Not only did they not have anything , they had been sold out for weeks. (Clearly I wasn’t the only one who had this brilliant idea.) The associate then went on to say that she and her husband had installed one a few months ago. While at first many thought she had lost her ever loving mind, now she said she wouldn’t have it any other way.

After an extensive online search, I found this beauty.

Luxe Bidet Neo 185

The Luxe Bidet attaches underneath your toilet seat. The Luxe Bidet comes with all the parts you’ll need to convert your existing clean water line to power the bidet. It literally took less than 10 minutes to install.

Time lapse installation

Not only was it super simple to install, I love that it doesn’t take up a lot of space.

Now, let’s talk about the model that we purchased.

The top control adjusts the intensity of the water pressure that comes out of the nozzle. Word of advice, a little goes a LONG way. You’re not trying to pressure wash your house. Just saying.

I did not realize when I bought this particular model, that it came with a special lady setting. This is for any time you need to freshen up down yonder…there I said it. (Which could not only be for that time of the month, but also the first thing that came to mind was post baby even.)

Initial thoughts and observations

Overall we are very impressed by the function and practicality. I can honestly say it has cut down on the amount of toilet paper we are using.

There is definitely a learning curve and of course the shock factor. (Ask me how I know a little turn goes a long way.) After a few uses I am way more comfortable with the whole process.

You just feel more fresh. I’m not gonna sugar coat things, that’s not why you’re here. It’s like a fresh bath for your bum and who doesn’t feel refreshed after a bath?!

We put it in our master bathroom, not our main bathroom. We didn’t want to run the risk of little visitors thinking our bathroom was a cool new splash pad. (Not that we’re having any visitors right now anyway, but you get what I’m saying.)

We’re not the only ones who love having a bidet.

After I made the announcement on social media that our bidet had just arrived, I received a TON of messages. Literally everyone was raving about how long and how much they loved their bidet. I sort of felt like I had been missing out on something.

Right now I know that bidets are on high demand, so I will give you a link to similar products. I cannot attest that they are the same as the one that I have, but there are other brands out there.

I know that this topic may be tongue and “cheek”, but trust me when I say, these are the times when you just have to think out of the box.

Stay safe and healthy!
