Budget Friendly Kitchen Refresh – Getting Started

This is finally the year of the kitchen refresh!

If you’ve been following along for any length of time, you’ve heard me mention at least once my distaste for the kitchen. I love the flow and function, but that’s about it. The appliances are outdated, the microwave part of the combo microwave and oven went out a year ago, the plastic coating on the cabinets is peeling off, countertops cracked, sink is dinged, the faucet is disgusting…. It’s no wonder I hate to cook.

The victim.

The first thing we tried was changing out the door and drawer pulls with these sea glass pulls from Liberty Hardware.

In person these sea glass pulls from Liberty Hardware are more teal.

The new pulls definitely made the kitchen feel more coastal, but we also decided to paint the kitchen Benjamin Moore Owl Gray and add the Aspect Peel and Stick Glass Tile in Morning Dew.

So much impact in such a little space.

You can read about how amazing and easy the Aspect Peel and Stick Glass tile was to install here.

Even with those slight changes, the kitchen looked better, but it wasn’t enough.

Now it was time to finally take this kitchen refresh head on. Now or never, here we go!

Here is our plan of attack:

-Update kitchen appliances

-Remove plastic coating on doors

-Add decorative trim to the doors to give a new look

-Paint the cabinets and drawers

-Replace kitchen sink and faucet

-Repair and refinish counter

-Organize and rearrange cabinet contents

It may seem like a tall order, but it’s definitely necessary to finally give this kitchen the attention it deserves. Maybe it will make me want to actually cook in it?! (I still wouldn’t hold me breath on that one.) And of course there will be a tutorial on how I do the cabinet doors.

Wish me luck!

XOXO,
Brooke
